Blue Sky Community Services is seeking a full-time Team Leader to join our Families, Young People and Communities Team within the Families Together program, commencing 1 July 2026. We are looking for a professional and values‑aligned individual to join our supportive and friendly team and contribute to the delivery of high‑quality Families Together services. 

This role will service the Port Macquarie, Kempsey, Bellingen, Coffs Harbour and Nambucca Heads Local Government Areas (LGAs) and will be based at Blue Sky’s Coffs Harbour office. The position is offered on a fixed‑term basis until 30 June 2031. 

This role requires a willingness to travel within the region. The position also involves participation in a 24/7 on‑call phone roster shared across the team, with on‑call allowances paid in accordance with the SCHADS Award. Successful candidates will be required to work flexibly between the hours of 6:00 am and 8:00 pm on weekdays as needed to respond to the needs of families.

About You 

The successful applicant for this position will have: 

  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, a related discipline, or equivalent sector experience with demonstrated experience leading child and family service teams and delivering trauma‑informed, family‑centred practice to vulnerable children and families. 

  • A willingness to travel within the local area to support families and provide leadership and oversight to staff in practice settings. 

  • The ability to model and consistently uphold behaviours, attitudes, and professional conduct aligned with the organisation’s values, culture, and Code of Conduct, and support team members to do the same. 

  • A strong working knowledge of Family Preservation systems and the NSW Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ), with the ability to guide, support, and quality‑assure team practice. 

  • A strong commitment to delivering exceptional customer service, and the capacity to embed service excellence across the team. 

  • Demonstrated capability to quickly learn, adapt to, and confidently use ICT systems, including the Microsoft suite, client management systems, and databases, and support team compliance with documentation and reporting requirements. 

  • The capability and willingness to confidently and accurately lead, promote, and embed the Families Together program, including its goals, activities, processes, and functions. 

About the Role 

This position sits within Blue Sky’s Families Together Service funded by the NSW Department of Communities and Justice under the Family Preservation Program. 

The Team Leader will:  

  • Lead the delivery of the Families Together program, ensuring high‑quality, safe, and effective services that keep children safely at home and prevent entry into Out of Home Care. 

  • Provide leadership, supervision, and practice guidance to a team of Family Practitioners and Family Support Workers, promoting trauma‑informed, strengths‑based, and family‑centred practice. 

  • Oversee team performance and service delivery, including case allocation, workload management, documentation quality, and achievement of KPIs and program outcomes. 

  • Support and guide staff in complex and high‑risk cases, including child protection concerns, domestic and family violence, alcohol and other drug use, and crisis situations. 

  • Ensure compliance with program, legislative, and organisational requirements, including mandatory reporting, risk management, documentation, and funding obligations. 

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including DCJ, Police, health services, schools, and community organisations, to support coordinated responses for families. 

  • Promote culturally safe, inclusive, and child‑focused practice across the team, supporting staff to work effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and families from diverse backgrounds. 

  • Drive service quality and continuous improvement, contributing to evaluation, audits, service reviews, and the development of program resources and practice improvements.
